Cisco is offering what it says is its first energy management solution for PCs and networked devices, using a solution from enterprise software firm Verdiem.

Under an OEM agreement announced this week, the networking giant will sell Verdiem’s energy management system under the Cisco EnergyWise Orchestrator brand.

The new solution would enable enterprises to manage the energy consumed by Cisco IP phones, wireless access points and other power over Ethernet (POE) devices.

Verdiem CEO Jeremy Jaech said it extended the capabilities of Verdiem’s prime product, an enterprise PC power management solution, and provided businesses with a “trusted, holistic, solution to measure, manage and monitor both their energy consumption and carbon footprint.”

Verdiem says organizations that have deployed its PC energy management product have achieved energy savings of 30% to 60%.

Cisco says the EnergyWise Orchestrator is a turnkey power management solution for IT assets.

It offers a centralized interface for managing PoE network devices and PCs, and integration with existing EnergyWise capabilities on Cisco switches and routers.
