Ciscos forges alliance with Korean smart city developer

Cisco has forged an alliance with South Korean developer Gale International to develop and provide “smart city” solutions and technologies.
Cisco is working with Gale on the property firm’s $35 billion SongDo project in Incheon, Korea, one of the world’s biggest real estate developments.
It aims to use the collaboration to create “a robust, repeatable platform and transformational solution” that will help other customers deploy smart city technologies.
“Cisco shares a common vision with Gale International that in cities of the future urban services will be delivered more innovatively, and cities will be managed more efficiently using technology that enables newer models of managed and hosted services within public-private partnerships,” it said in a statement.
Cisco signed a frame agreement with Gale to establish to establish a global research center for smart city technology in April 2009.
The two companies will partner to speed the development of “smart and connected cities,” planning to create “a broad ecosystem of strategic design, development and technology partners to enable and drive network-enabled city-scale innovation.”
Cisco and Gale will also collaborate on the Meixi Lake District project in Changsha, southern China.
Cisco says its “Smart+Connected Communities” initiative is aimed at managing and delivering urban services for the real estate, security, transport, utility, government, education and health care sectors.
