Dell has unveiled a new range of power-sipping servers, storage systems and an IT management architecture.

The company last week took the wraps of five new PowerEdge-branded servers, based on Intel’s new Xeon 5500 processors and optimized for virtualization.

The 11th generation servers are embedded with energy saving smarts that can cut power consumption by 48 watts and save 1,600 yuan ($234) over the average four-year product lifecycle, Dell said.

They offer a 50% boost in performance and a 40% lower total cost of ownership per chasis compared with HP’s ProLiant blade solution, Dell said.

The server range can expect to achieve the industry highest performance per watt,” according to SPECpower_ssj2008.

Milind Yedkar, director enterprise marketing for Dell Greater China, said he saw the early signs of an uptake in demand from small and medium businesses.

Launching the new gear at an event in Beijing, along with a new management console based on Symantec’s Altiris and a series of storage arrays, he said the company was “cautiously optimistic” about demand in Hong Kong and mainland China.
