Dell has joined the data center optimization market, promising a consultancy service that will help customers find their "hidden data center".
The company is offering energy assessment and advice on data center design and consolidation that it says can help cut energy costs by up to two-thirds.
The services are now available in Asia, a spokesperson said.
"By applying best practices in data center design, layout and configuration, Dell can help customers improve productivity and energy efficiency to expand capacity in existing facilities," Dell said.
Dell's optimization services include "energy smart data center assessment", consultancy on redesigning an existing or designing a new facility, consolidation and migration, storage consulting and virtualization.
"A majority of data centers were built during the dot-com boom and are reaching their 10-year lifespan, so it's no surprise that many companies are hitting a wall when it comes to data center capacity," said Albert Esser, vice president of power and infrastructure solutions.
