Chinese auto and battery-maker BYD, backed by Warren Buffett, is targeting the home energy management market. It is plotting to build solar panels, large energy storage systems and LED lighting systems.
Verizon Business has opened a 3,000 sq m data center in Hong Kong, its second in the territory. The new facility, in Tsuen Wan, features ROADM technology and connects to local carriers and Verizon’s global network. It is also offering a data center consulting service.
The European Commission has unveiled a green vehicle action plan for the European car industry, starting with a rollout of vehicle charging stations across the continent, Business Green reports.
Sony UK is offering discounts of up to £150 ($228) for customers who trade in their old TV, DVD players or other home electronic equipment, The Guardian reports. The offer is aimed at encouraging consumers to upgrade their appliances ahead of the World Cup but also to reduce the amount of e-waste going to landfill.
