GE has opened a new phase of its $200m open innovation challenge, inviting technologists, entrepreneurs to come up with the best ideas for harnessing and managing energy at home. The Challenge will be open between January 18 and March 1, 2011.
 
US start-up Viridity Energy, whose technology helps energy-consuming businesses sell excess power back to the grid, has raised $14m in series B funding, Tech Crunch reports.
 
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) scheme has cut the price of its next notebook to $165, with power consumption also slashed by half. The XO-1.75 will start shipping in Q2. 
 
The State Grid Corp of China (SGCC) will build a network of EV charging stations in Beijing, Tianjin, Hefei and Nanchang this year, Beijing News reported.
 
GE has acquired Remote Energy Monitoring, which offers technologies to help consumers and utilities monitor and manage their energy usage. It has operations in the UK and Australia,
