Norwegian firm REC has won a contract to supply solar panels to the Singapore Housing Development Board (HDB).
The 1 MW tender, Singapore’s largest ever solar panel contract, will cover 25 HDB housing blocks in six precincts, REC said.
HDB CEO Tay Kim Poh said the agency’s “solar capability building program” aimed to build up expertise in solar energy generation and achieve proficiency in design and installation.
REC will begin installing its peak energy series modules in the fourth quarter of 2010.
“This is a strong recognition of the commitment and the quality of the work of our organization in Singapore,” said group executive vice president and COO, John Andersen Jr.
REC will establish a manufacturing plan in Singapore, employing 1300 staff, which is expected to open in November.
